Categories: FAQ Date: Mar 20, 2009 Title: 16. I work in one of the "public services" - what protection is offered to me?
Recently, the Police have been putting a great deal of effort into investigating a common law offence of "misconduct in a public office". The Police are the guardians of the criminal law - they are not the arbiters of, "what is in the public interest" and cannot use the law to suppress genuine disclosure.
Time and time again, the Courts have held that if a disclosure is in the public interest, then anyone has the right to "blow the whistle" and equally, the press have a duty to report the facts.
At Whistle Blowers Press Agency Limited we act as a firebreak between the whistle blowers and the newpaper/broadcaster. This distances the source from the publisher making exposure highly unlikely.
