Paramedics – unnecessary disciplinary proceedings add to the delays at A & E
A whistle blower has contacted us and told us the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust is in the process of investigating why so many patients with minor ailments are taken by ambulance to A & E. Some of the patients, who arrive at A & E leave before treatment and others, on diagnosis, are found to have nothing wrong with them.
According to the whistle blower, the investigation was unnecessary – it is common knowledge that the immediate response to a “misdiagnosis†by a paramedic is instant disciplinary proceedings, often resulting in dismissal and an appearance before the HPC.
As a result of the constant threat of disciplinary proceedings, the paramedics do not hesitate to transport the patient to hospital, even though they personally feel nothing, whatsoever, is wrong with the patient or the patient could wait and see their GP at a later date.
As a result, A & E departments become overwhelmed and front-line paramedic crews are taken off the road, whilst the patient is transported to hospital
