Who Is Responsible For Paying the Bills?

If you’re a tenant paying for your utilities, you may want to double check your tenant agreement. Recently, Whistle Blowers was contacted by an individual who noticed he was being charged for his water usage. Upon re-examining his tenant agreement, he found his landlord was, in fact, responsible for paying that bill. When he contacted the water company, he found out that the landlord had set up an account in his name. This raises questions surrounding handling of personal information, possible fraud with regards to setting up accounts in another person’s name. It also makes us wonder how common this practice might be.

Have you been charged for utilities that should have been included in your rent? Do you have a landlord horror story? We want to hear from you.
