Are Prisons Understaffed?

Working in a prison comes with inherent risks. However, Whistle Blowers was shocked to learn that in one particular prison, there are times when one guard is responsible for about 100 inmates. Though this is when they are in their cells in a particular wing, it raises serious concerns for the safety of the staff as well as the inmates. Our Whistle Blower alleges that guards are being assaulted on a regular basis (though it is not officially reported as it should be) and that the safety of inmates is seriously compromised. According to this individual, less money is being spent on the maintenance of staff and facilities because of the desire to make prisons profitable.

While this is a topic that comes up regularly in the media, we are left to wonder why these issues are not being addressed. Have you worked in a prison setting? Are you currently working? Have you been previously incarcerated and wish to share your experience? We would like to hear from you.
