Police Federation Funding and expenses

“Whistle Blowers” has learned the Police Federation, the Policemen’s union, is amassing many thousands in contribution payments from officers. In one provincial force the Federation have accumulated over £1,000,000 which sits in the Bank(s) and is growing daily.

Police budgets are now strictly controlled and as a consequence over-time for front line officers is limited or remains non-existent, whereas the Federation (union) representatives have an unlimited amount of overtime, not paid by the Federation but by the taxpayers, who pick up the bill for general overtime, out of hours attendance and periods when the full time representatives are merely “on-call.”

The Police Federation representaives are policemen/women, who have been removed from front line duties. We are told that in the last twelve months the four full time Federation Representatives, subject of our enquiry, have managed to spend in excess of £65,000 in, “expenses.” Those expenses include the costs of coffee and lunch provided in the police canteen – other serving officers have to pay for their refreshment from their own pockets.

“Whistle Blowers” will pursue the investigation by way of Freedom of Information Act applications but in the meantime, if you are a serving officer, who can throw some light on these alleged “excesses,” we need you to contact us.
